In the highs and the lows of this roller coaster life, we often hear people a lot more vocal of their lows, I cannot remember a day in my life that I haven’t heard a complaint, from myself or from the people around me. Most of us spend more time complaining than expressing gratitude and that’s where we go wrong.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “In everything, give thanks”. In everything, because there is always something to be thankful for! Instead of complaining about being late to work because of traffic, how about being thankful that you got to work safely? Instead of complaining about the types food you have to eat, how about being thankful that you have even food at all and instead of complaining about how horrible your life is sometimes, how about being thankful that you’re still alive?
I have so much to be thankful for because God has blessed me immensely, and being the spoilt brat that I am, I’m always complaining about what I don’t have instead of being grateful for what I do have… So today I will start a list of what I’m thankful for…
My faith: I’m not perfect, not even close. I could be a way better Christian than I am, but I thank God for loving me anyway and always giving me another chance.
My family: They are the reason I get up every morning, we may not have everything we want, but I’m thankful that in each other we have everything we need.
My friends: From my childhood friends to the friends I’ve made while traveling, every single one of them have played a special part in my story and have always been there for me, for that I am grateful.
My job: I think this is the one thing everybody complains about a little too often, I’m guilty of it, but I’m thankful that I have even a job, I’m thankful for the people I work with and everything I have learned.
My travel life : I’ve complained about this so much recently because I’ve been home for a couple of months and well, anyone whose ever been bitten by the travel bug knows how being in your home town for too long makes you feel, it sucks but I’m thankful that I got to travel in the first place, 2 years ago I was a girl who hadn’t traveled out of her province let alone country, I’m thankful for my time overseas, I’m thankful for these couple of months back home with my family, and I’m thankful in advance for all the opportunities and trips I will go on in 2017.
My life: Sometimes I have no idea what I’m doing with my life, but I’m thankful for every breath that I take and I’m thankful for the purpose that God has for me, even though I don’t understand it sometimes, I know his ways are better than mine.
Give thanks every day, look for something positive in hard times be thankful for it and allow nothing to ever steal your joy because gratitude not only turns what we have into enough but also attracts more to be thankful for!
If you feel you have nothing to be thankful for, I’ll leave you with this…
That breath you just took….. It’s a gift. Rob Bell
